Juniors, seniors and women boxers from various clubs took part, including Nyusa Boxing Promotions, Mfuzo, Masibambane, Nkuthazo, Mayfield, Kirkwood and the Port Alfred Boxing Club.
Municipal officials and representatives from the Makana Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture were also there to take in the day’s action.
Sondelani Teamsports, based in Kirkwood, has a year-long partnership with the regional sports and recreation department to ensure that boxing activities take place in all areas of Cacadu.
Sondelani owner Russell Sparg told Grocott’s Mail that all the boxers who took part in the event walked away with medals and their clubs received boxing equipment, kit and T-shirts.
Cacadu Boxing Organisation secretary Mfuzo Dyira said the event was such a success that they will consider holding future free boxing trials outdoors as it attracts all types of people.
