While the Mutual & Federal Universities Boat Race, which came to an end last Saturday, proved to be yet another success, the Rhodes A sides were unable to make the finals.

While the Mutual & Federal Universities Boat Race, which came to an end last Saturday, proved to be yet another success, the Rhodes A sides were unable to make the finals.


Nine South African universities took part in this year’s event on the Kowie River at Port Alfred. Tuks were the men’s winners, beating University of Cape Town in the men’s final, while in the women’s race, the University of Johannesburg beat the UCT crew.

Rhodes did manage to get a win, with the Rhodes B crew winning the men’s B section. They beat University of Johannesburg in the final.

In the women’s B race, University of Johannesburg beat University of Cape Town. Rhodes men and women A crews, who have both won the boat races four times since 2000, both last won in 2007.

The Rhodes men’s A side finished fourth out of eight teams, while the women’s A side also took fourth spot. The Rhodes women’s B side finished fourth.
