The Department of Basic Education (DBE) will allow the 2021 matric results to be published on media platforms, following a Gauteng High Court ruling on Tuesday, 18 January.
Earlier this month, the DBE announced that media outlets would no longer be allowed to publish matric results, citing concerns over the Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act.
The department said it would observe the ruling by making available the results “to stakeholders who request access”.
In addition to accessing results from media platforms, the department also urged candidates to register on the website to view the results when they become available. Candidates will have to go through a two-step verification process before receiving their registration confirmation.
A 13-digit ID number and Exam Number will be required for registration. The DBE website is zero-rated, which means it can be accessed whether you have data or not.

Registration to access the results on this website is compulsory. Registration is now open.
The individual candidate results will be available from 21 January 2022.
The department also urged candidates to get their results from their school/centre where they wrote the exams.
Result queries should be submitted for investigation within 30 days after the release of the results. Candidates must ensure that names and identity numbers reflect correctly on their statement of results and report any required corrections to the Department before 21 February 2022.
