The National Arts Festival has announced the screening of the Royal Ballet’s performance of the CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS OF LEONARD BERNSTEIN, courtesy of Nebula Productions. The screening will take place in the Olive Schreiner Hall at the Monument on Friday 18 May at 7pm.

Three Royal Ballet choreographers honour the creative genius of Leonard Bernstein as part of the special worldwide centennial celebration of works created in response to his music. The programme includes two world premieres by Wayne McGregor and Christopher Wheeldon, as well as the first revival of Liam Scarlett’s The Age of Anxiety set to Bernstein’s Symphony No 2.

Continuing his distinctive creative collaborations beyond the world of dance, Wayne McGregor’s new ballet incorporates designs by artist Edmund de Waal, and is set to Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. Christopher Wheeldon collaborates with award-winning fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu to create the costumes for his piece.

This is a screening of the live ballet performance at The Royal Opera House in London. It is nearly three hours long with two intervals. Tickets are R100 for adults and R90 for students, pensioners and children. The tuck shop and bar will be open through both intervals – and soup and rolls will be added to their normal fare.
