Emma Fraser’s last gasp equaliser secured Kingswood College a 1-1 draw with the Diocesan School for Girls (DSG) in Saturday’s first team girls’ hockey clash at Webster Astro.
For the most part, the first half was evenly poised. It looked as if the teams were set to go into half-time at 0-0. However, DSG captain Julie Jevon snatched the lead for her side by scoring just before the break.
The hosts had the better of the early stages of the second half as well, but Kingswood defended well to keep themselves in the game.
Towards the end, the tide began to turn and Kingswood began to apply more pressure. Just as the first half had before, the second ended with a late goal from a captain. Only this time, it was Kingswood’s Emma Fraser.
DSG mounted one final attack as the clock died down, but they were unable to find the back of the net again and the final whistle blew with the scores level at one apiece.
After having seen their boys’ first team go down 6-0 to St. Andrew’s on Wednesday, Kingswood’s girls will be happy to have brought some pride to their school in an otherwise bleak K-Day.
