The Rhodes University student branch of the Black Management Forum (BMF) believes that doing good in the name of Nelson Mandela shouldn't be confined to Mandela Day.

In this spirit, on Thursday 25 July, the Forum hosted Joza soccer team, Sophia Youngsters.

The Forum's community engagement officer Sihle Nkatsha said, “People need not to forget that Tata Mandela was a sportsman. Playing is one of the things we can honour him with.

“We decided to do something different in our celebration of the Madiba Day – playing sport and actually getting dirty. Overall it’s all about having fun,” said Nkatsha.

Although the celebrations started late, which meant planned coaching clinics got cancelled, excitement mounted as teams took to the pitch.

Sophia Youngsters coach Siyeni Silo said it was good for the boys to play during the lull in the season.

The soccer day formed part of Rhodes University's Trading Live for Mandela initiative, which aims to change lives for the better through interaction between different parts of the community through an exchange of skills.
