Love and Peace coach Dumisani Sole was named under-17 coach of the season in the soccer Junior Development League Awards at Joza Indoor Sport Centre on Sunday.
The annual awards, for coaches and players in the under-13, under-15 and under-17 categories, were organised by the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, in conjunction with Makana Municipality.
Makana sport and recreation manager, Jeff Budaza, said, The awards event happened during the last minutes but we managed to settle things and run the programme.
The Junior Development League was a project begun four years ago, Budaza said, and the matches were organised by volunteers.
We did the event with zero budget and it was successful and well-attended, said Budaza.
Akhona Hesu, coordinator of the awards function, said this was the second running of the awards programme.
I am very happy that children are receiving something for their talent, said Hesu.
He said those who were not doing anything in their communities should join clubs and play sport.
Hesu said there would be a two-day under-15 tournament at the Army base this weekend, attended by local and out-of-town teams.
Children will be rewarded with medals and trophies, said Hesu.
The following teams received Junior Development League awards:
Eleven Attackers, Sakhulutsha, Young Killers, Lingelihle and Love and Peace.
Top coaches:
Dumisani Patric Sole(U17s), Hezekiel Hlungwane (U13s) and Mxolisi Hlengezele (U15s).
