The Joza Karate Club hosted a team training session at the Joza Indoor Sports Centre last Saturday, in preparation for the upcoming South African Shotokan Karate Academy (SASKA) national championships which will be held at the Uitenhage Indoor Sports Centre from 7 to 8 October.
The Joza Karate Club hosted a team training session at the Joza Indoor Sports Centre last Saturday, in preparation for the upcoming South African Shotokan Karate Academy (SASKA) national championships which will be held at the Uitenhage Indoor Sports Centre from 7 to 8 October.
Members of the Joza and Makana karate clubs will compete as part of the East Cape Shotokan-Ryu team. The morning’s training focussed on kumite (fighting) techniques and was conducted by Mzwandile Matebese (Joza karate club), Nolan De Maar and Gary Grapentin (both East Cape Shotokan-Ryu).
About 40 karateka from the local karate clubs were present. As further preparation for the national championship, East Cape Shotokan-Ryu and the Rhodes Shotokan Karate Club will host a full day’s training session at Rhodes University on Saturday (24 September).
The guest instructor will be Sensei Kenny Tawse, the provincial style head for the South African Shotokan Karate Academy (SASKA).
