"There is nothing in the mayor's speech on disabled persons," Tyantsula said, asking if lack of consideration for disabled people was part of Makana culture.
"We need to show that they are there," she said, urging the mayor to ensure programmes for the disabled were established. "Makana is behind, if not zero [when it comes to disabled matters]," she said.
"I am not crying, but I want it to be noticed." Peter said the matter would be on the agenda at the first Council meeting. His comment was supported by the new Local Economic Development portfolio committee chairperson, Paul Notyawa, who said he was touched by Tyantsula's statement. "We are a new council. We must be given the opportunity to look at these gaps," he said, making a commitment on behalf of the mayor that it would be looked into.
As Peter welcomed the new councillors on Thursday, he enthusiastically outlined the components of a plan to improve the municipality's performance.
