Since the inception of the BSG Energade Kids' Triathlon Series in 2007, pupils from Victoria Primary School have enthusiastically supported this exciting multi-sport event, collecting thousands of rands in incentives for the school in the process.

The VP Team was once again in full force at the penultimate race of the 2010 series at Pollock Beach, Port Elizabeth on Sunday where, as usual, they collected the R5 000 cheque the organisers award at each race to the school that brings the most participants.

Joining dozens of other youngsters, the Grahamstown school’s would-be triathlon stars didn’t let the windy conditions dampen their spirits and they eagerly participated in this exhilarating multi-sport event which encompasses three disciplines, namely swimming, cycling and running.

With the series all about getting children active, but also developing young talent in the sport, a few changes were made to the kids' series this year to help identify new talent and nurture tomorrow’s champions, especially among young teens.

This year, the 12 to 15 age group was timed. With some of the 60 youngsters from Victoria Primary competing as individuals, and the rest in teams in the various categories, there was plenty of cheering and support for schoolmates. As usual, every participant received a medal, a T-shirt, an Energade, swimming cap and a goodie bag with fun stuff from the series co-sponsors, making everyone a winner on the day.

Adding to the fun of the event, plenty of spot prizes were also given away to the young competitors – but the highlight was undoubtedly when the school received the R5 000 incentive prize. The final race in the 2010 series will be held at Big Bay, Bloubergstrand, in Cape Town, on Sunday, October 5 and parents or schools who would like to enter their children in the series can go to www.kidsseries.co.za for further details.
