With the local tennis season coming to an end recently, Coombs Tennis Club enjoyed yet another successful season. The tennis courts at Coombs have been occupied and alive with the thuds and squeaks of ongoing tennis matches.
With the local tennis season coming to an end recently, Coombs Tennis Club enjoyed yet another successful season. The tennis courts at Coombs have been occupied and alive with the thuds and squeaks of ongoing tennis matches.
No less than 15 new members joined Coombs this season which made it possible for the club to enter three teams into the Bathurst and District Lawn Tennis Association league- a first but also a challenge.
“Thanks to the commitment from all the players involved, Coombs did not have to cancel one match this season,” said club member Leslie van der Merwe.
The Coombs first team enjoyed a 100% success rate winning 11 out of the 11 matches played, and also finished second in the Bathurst and Districts league.
The annual tennis championship was a great success with Coombs’ Chesney Long winning the men’s singles, Gavin and Glynn Dixon the men’s doubles and Gavin Dixon and Tamaryn Roberts the mixed doubles. Results aside, Coombs enjoyed much success off the courts as well.
The club have installed lights at the Coombs Tennis Courts allowing for many after hours matches to be played.
HP Auctions will has come on board and will be Coombs Tennis Club’s main sponsor for the 2011 tennis season.
“This is only possible due to the support from the local farming community at the Manley Flats Stock Pens,” said Van der Merwe.
“All in all the 2010 winter league tennis season was a tremendous success, congratulations to all those who participated and added to Coombs achievements on and off the courts,” concluded Van der Merwe.
