The hall stood vacant because some residents boycotted it, demanding that a sacrificial cleansing ceremony take place there after a worker died on-site during the construction in May.
Last week, municipal Communication Officer Thandy Matebese said, “It was never a concern of the municipality that the hall would not be used.” He said they always knew the community would utilise it when the need arose.
“We knew the hall would be used, even the people who were dancing are using it,” he said. “The cow thing was just a side issue, no cow will be slaughtered, never.” Regarding naming the hall, he said the municipality is still undecided.
