Local primary schools were invited to participate in some soccer and netball as part of a Love Life youth festival last week.

With the purpose of involving local township youth with sports and life skills and away from substance abuse and crime the theme of the festival was Sifunda Sidlala (we learn while we play).

Not only were the schools playing for fun, the winners in each age category were to get a chance to further play in a cluster tournament against teams from Peddie and Alicedale.

The winners then will take part in a Cacadu district tournament. Socially active, especially in HIV/Aids related issues from the angle of the youth, Love Life groundbreakers’ and mpintshis (volunteers) conduct a number of youth engagement programmes in local communities nationwide.

“It’s not always that you find bright learners at schools, so when a learner struggles academically, there should be sport codes available as other career options.

This programme is for learners to play but also to learn at the same time,” said Love Life co-ordinator Xolani Nxuzula.
