It has been seven years that a Raglan Road resident has been living with a stinking problem. Mzwamadoda Williams says his neighbour’s leaking sewerage pipe spills over into his property despite several attempts by the municipality to fix the problem.

Siseko Peter, a resident on the affected property says that the toilet is not in use but continues to leak and cause a stink. Williams says: “The municipality only fixes the problem temporarily.” He turned to the owner of the neighbouringproperty to address the problem but the owner told him it is not his problem, and that the municipality need to fix it.

A municipal official inspected the toilet during the week, but the sewerage isstill flowing down Williams’ driveway, says Peter. He also informed Grocott’s Mail that it is only the municipality’s responsibility if there is a problem with the main sewerage pipe.

If the toilet is leaking, the owners need to consult a private plumber to fix the problem. The  municipality’s sewerage department could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.
