Kingswood College, St Andrew’s College and Graeme College first cricket teams all enjoyed wins in their various cricket matches on Saturday.
St Andrew’s hosted Grey High School for their declaration match. The game was set to be a big one and evidently the match exceeded expectations. St Andrew’s won the toss and decided to bowl first.

James Price managed to get an early breakthrough, but a healthy second wicket partnership placed Grey in a more comfortable position at 65/1.
St Andrew’s then gained control of the game with Grey at 73/5, before Grey bounced back with an 82 run sixth wicket partnership.
At 155/6 time was running out for St Andrew’s, but they persisted and managed to bowl Grey out for 185 in 78 overs. Ryan Dugmore took five wickets for 48 runs.
At 37/1 after 15 overs St Andrew’s had lots to do. The St Andrew’s batsman kept calm producing
valuable partnerships and when the last 20 overs arrived they needed 115 runs with eight wickets in hand.
The St Andrew’s batsman all played their part as captain Ryan Dugmore kept his composure and held the innings together but found himself off strike in the last over needing seven runs for victory with three
wickets in hand.
Daniel Long had a full swing at his first delivery and the ball just cleared long-on for six and a victory for St Andrews looked imminent. Long attempted the same stroke but lost his middle stump, bringing on young Chris Ford.
The penultimate ball produced a flick by Ford back towards the bowler, the catch slipped through and they completed the single and an exhilarating victory for St Andrew’s.
The Kingswood first team faced Muir on Saturday with Kingswood losing two early wickets, before Neil Hornbuckle (94) and Jason Davidson (24) put on 78 for the third wicket.
Kingswood ended up on a 187 all out. In a brilliant display, the opening attack pegged Muir back immediately.
Both claiming a wicket each and only bowling three boundary balls in the first 12 overs, Muir slipped to 56 for 5 at afternoon tea. In a match-winning over by Hornbuckle, Nicholas Gailey took a diving catch at deep mid-wicket to rally the team, which was followed up by probably one of the best schoolboy catches by Lihleli Xoli.
Grey’s in-form batsman skied an attempt to hit over the bowler’s head and Xoli had to track back 30 metres from a mid-on position to eventually take the catch with a dive, parallel to the ground over his head in the long-off position.
This left Muir at 76 for 7. A solid 48 run partnership was eventually broken by another Jason Davidson yorker as he ended with fine figures of 4 for 20. Muir were then dismissed for 128, and Kingswood won by 49 runs.
The Graeme College senior cricket sides faced Alexander Road High School in various inter schools cricket matches on Saturday, while the juniors played against Woodridge.
The Graeme first team went on to beat Alexander by three wickets. Batting first, Alexander made 142 all out. Kashka Crampton was the pick of the Graeme bowlers, taking five wickets for 20 runs.
Thandi Nqowana’s 55 not out and Kashka Crampton’s 42 steered Graeme to a seven wicket win as the side made 147/3.
