Nina Solomon from Victoria Girls’ High School excelled in the recent matric exams, receiving the most distinctions in her school for her hard work.
Nina Solomon from Victoria Girls’ High School excelled in the recent matric exams, receiving the most distinctions in her school for her hard work.
Nina, who tallied up six distinctions, said: “I am very happy with the results because I didn’t know what to expect. I’m sure my parents will be very happy as well." Nina, who is originally from Fort Beaufort, got distinctions for English 84%; Afrikaans 84%; Maths 88%; Life Orientation 92%; Accounting 87% and Life Sciences 89%. She would have achieved seven but she got 79% for Physical Sciences.
She said that the exams were "okay" despite having to write five exams in one week. “I enjoyed the exams except for Maths which was a bit of a shocker,” she said. “I found that sticking notes all around my walls helped because even if I stared on the walls I was being productive,” she joked.
Nina has been offered a scholarship and will be going to UCT to study towards a Bachelor of Sciences (BSc) degree majoring in Physics. “I’m very excited but I’m also scared because Cape Town is much bigger than Grahamstown. But I can start figuring out what to do with my life from then on,” she said.
VGHS Principal Madeleine Schoeman said that Nina was an exceptional student and even though she was only at the school for two years she achieved a lot during her time there. She also said that she was proud of Nina’s achievement as she is with all her pupils’ results.
