The Makana Tourism Office recently unveiled their newly renovated front of house which has been approved by the Eastern Cape Tourism Board ahead of 2010.
The revamped premises was on show at the end of year function held last Thursday. The revamp comes after the Tourism Office received a welcome boost in the form of a R75 000 cash injection from the Municipality to revamp their offices. The revamp was successfully completed in September.
The tender for the revamp was awarded to Rite Design Cabinets (RDC) who donated R10 000 out of their own pockets towards the project, allegedly because they knew R75 000 would not finance all the relevant alterations. Erica Gornall from RDC said that they decided to donate this amount because the tourism office did not have enough and because it provided an opportunity for them to advertise their business.
Director of Makana Tourism, Willem Makkink, said that the renovations were done with 2010 in mind and that visitors can look forward to clean and comfortable premises. “With the way the office was before, we would have had a hard time in 2010 as we are expecting a lot of visitors to the office,” he said. “We’re really proud of the office that we’ve now got here,” he added.
Brian Jackson, research officer at the Tourism Office said that when the Eastern Cape Tourism Board came around to inspect whether the office was of a sufficient standard ahead of 2010, they declared it one of the finest they have seen so far.
Businesses involved in the renovations include: Jake’s Electrical, Creatives on Click and James van Rensburg who did the interior decorating.
