By LIKHAPHA THAATHAA The Makana Municipality failed to meet the Legal Resources Centre’s (LRC) 18 February deadline to fully comply with the Grahamstown High Court order of September 2021 to clean up illegal dumpsites in Makana. But, some progress has been made. On 17 February, a day before the deadline, the municipality met with the LRC to provide a breakdown of their attempts to comply. The Cambrays in Park Road received 24mm of rain from the spectacular thunder and lightning storm on Tuesday night. For the week of 24-30 March, Park Road recorded 36.2mm. Forecasts promised up to 20mm for Thursday 31 March to add to the monthly March total, which stood at 66.9mm at the end of Wednesday. By SAM BABAYA The SPCA hosted their annual open day and glow walk on Sunday, 27 March. For a small donation, visitors were given a dog and a map to go off and explore. The map offered 1,5km, 2km or 3km walking route options. The dogs soaked up the much-needed love and affection, and everyone was wearing big smiles. The joyful atmosphere of the day reflected the care and commitment of the SPCA volunteers and Makhanda’s community spirit. The aptly-named Coffee Club for Moms and Young Children was recently started as a pilot project, following the Lebone Centre’s #EveryBabyMatters initiative.
