About
Hello!
I’m Megan. I am currently a full-time student, who is studying journalism at Rhodes University in Makhanda (Grahamstown) in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.
On the odd occasion I get to travel around to different places during the holidays. But before I get into that, let me just give you a bit of an explanation about the name of my blog.
Why “Her ‘little’ suitcase”?
Well, I am the furthest thing from a light traveller. I tend to travel with many bags. To me, they are all essential. But… I tend to get some looks when I pitch up for a weekend away with three or four bags. I know, that is a lot. And one day when I want to go backpacking, I will have to cut down a lot. I just like being prepared, so I bring extra things in case of emergency.
Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to travel. I love hearing about people’s adventures and so I decided why not share some of my own?
My dream place to visit is France. Yes, that may seem cliché. But I have always been drawn to the idea of walking around Paris, experiencing the romantic city, then travelling to the country side, wondering aimlessly through old villages. But to be honest, I have always just had a love for travel. The night before leaving I always find it difficult to have proper sleep, because of the excitement takes over my mind. The idea of getting to explore a new place makes me elated.
Majority of my travels take place with my boyfriend. He brings a lot of adventure to my life and is the reason that I have started seeing the world around me from a fresh perspective. He has helped to crack open my rather sheltered life, encouraging me to try and do things that I would probably not have done before.
I am only a student at the moment, still working through the intricate and complicated details of life. But through my travels, I have started to realise my strengths and weaknesses and in doing so, I have become more self-aware. Obviously self-discovery is not solely linked to travelling, but it does bring out a different side of you. Often, I have found that it brings out fears, insecurities and strengths that you did not know you had. That is not a bad thing, it helps you learn more about yourself.
It is also important that you know that I am lactose and gluten intolerant. This is something that I have only become fully aware of over the course of 2018. I would rather not get into the details of it, but I will tell you is that it has made eating out a tricky experience. So I will be offering recommendations of restaurants and places that I have been to which offer alternatives to dairy and gluten. In South Africa, it is slowly becoming more common for restaurants to offer alternatives, but it is still not easy to come across.
So, that’s something about me. If you have any questions, comments or just want to say hi, feel free to send me a message!
