The National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Nafcoc) launched their local branch, the Makana Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Mafcoc) on Saturday. Mafcoc is a network of local businesses that aims to create a support network for local businesses with a particular but not exclusive focus on developing businesses owned by black people.

Kingswood Junior School made an almost clean sweep at the Grahamstown Riding Club’s (GRC) first SouthAfrican National Equestrian Federation (Sanef) schools league show last weekend.
St Andrew’s College will host the U15 Independent Schools Cricket Festival which starts in Grahamstown today. Kingswood College and Graeme College will also be taking part in the tournament, while other schools include St Stithian’s, St Davids, St Charles, St Alban’s, St Andrew’s Bloemfontein, St John’s College and Clifton.

A camera used to make student identity cards was stolen out of the Student Bureau offices on Rhodes campus last week. According to Dave Charteris, manager for the Campus Protection Unit (CPU), this is the third attempt to steal the camera in the past few years.
ON Wednesday Superintendent Sharlene Otto, chief forensic analyst from the police forensic science laboratory in Cape Town, testified in the rape trial of 18-year-old Mzukisi Litye in the regional court. Litye has been charged with raping a 42-yearold woman from Zolani on the night of 19 January 2008 when he was 16.
