The Grahamstown High Schools U17 Football League started on 10 March at JD Dlepu with Ntsika Secondary School playing Mary Waters on the A field and Nombulelo facing TEM Mrwetyana on the B field. Organisers hope this year to formalise the league so that each player will have a player’s card and a unique registration number.

The Rhodes University Soccer Club started the season in the University Sports South Africa (USS A) Eastern Cape Football league on a mild note, having to play three matches in one day. The matches were played at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth. Rhodes men’s first match was against Walter Sisulu University – Ibika and easily won 2-0.
A man accused of raping two boys in the informal settlement of Zolani was denied bail by the Grahamstown Magistrate’s Court when he appeared for his bail application on Monday. Mzuxolile Sam (20), has been accused of raping two boys aged 13 and nine at their home in the early hours of Saturday 6 March.
