The Secret Scarf Mission is a nationwide event started in 2013 by the South African Facebook group called 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day. The event takes place at the same time on Mandela Day, in special aid of the less fortunate during the testing winter conditions. “Being a woman or child is not a sin.” This was the watchword of the day, while a procession of about 100 supporters and schoolchildren gathered to march against the scourge of children and women abuse. They met at various points between the start at the Joza Post Office and the Cathedral, before ending up at the Magistrate’s Court to hand over a memorandum.
