Kingswood College announced its Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year for 2012. Accomplished athlete and top squash player, Jethro Thorburn, received the Sportsman of the Year shield. Jethro has been awarded honours for squash and is currently ranked number 11 in the South African U19 squash rankings, and number two in the Eastern Province rankings.

He has captained the Kingswood squash team this year and was awarded Top Player of the Year in the Makana Men's League. Jethro has excelled in squash since his junior school days, and was ranked as the number one U14 player in South Africa when he played at international level at a tournament in Thailand. He was also awarded colours for athletics and was the Open Victor Ludorum at Kingswood's Sports Day in October, winning the Open high jump and 110m hurdles.
Kingswood's Sportswoman of the Year, Celeste du Toit, also excels at a number of sport codes, having received school colours for athletics, hockey and swimming, and standards for tennis. Celeste, in Grade 10 this year, was the Victrix Ludorum in the Open category at sports day, winning the open 1 500m and a member of the winning road relay event. She first played for the first hockey team in Grade 9 and was selected for the EP U16 team this year.
Her hockey coach, Jeanette Makkie, describes her as a disciplined and dedicated player on and off the field, who is a role model to junior players. Both Jethro and Celeste are from Grahamstown.
