Municipal Manager Ntombi Baart is still in office, 10 days after the expiry of an ultimatum for her to tell the Council's Mayoral Committee why she should not be suspended from her job.
In Grocott's Mail's front page story on 5 April we reported on the Mayoral Committee's ultimatum, issued in the light of Makana's repeated poor audit results.
But Grocott's Mail has learned that Baart is still occupying her office, and our source was not clear whether or not she'd submitted the motivation. Baart herself was in East London on municipal matters, the source said.
The Mayor was unavailable to comment on the matter. According to his secretary, he was out of town at the time of going to press. Grocott's Mail will keep readers informed on developments regarding Baart's threatened suspension.
