Over 70 players and supporters will be part of the Hoërskool PJ Olivier touring group to Namibia from 4 June to 14 June next year.
Rugby coach Lyndon Brandt has been working hard with the pupils and has giving them a training programme to keep them fit during the holiday break.
The teams will be playing hockey, rugby and netball matches in Walvisbaai and Windhoek, preceded by matches in Upington.
“Not only will we be promoting our sports, but we will be travelling Namibia as well as white-water river rafting down the Orange River,” said Manie Cronje, the manager/tour organiser.
As part of the fundraising ideas, an English/Afrikaans recipe book has been compiled with recipes submitted by parents, leraners and teachers. The funds received from the sale of the books will go “solely towards paying for the learners to go on this tour,” said Cronje. The recipe books are currently for sale at Pick n Pay for R69.99. “The recipe book is perfect for Christmas presents for your family,” he added.
A number of events are planned for early next year, including sending a bus to Bloemfontein for the Super 14 match. There are also plans to host a rugby dinner, wine auction and a spelling marathon.
