Monday was a sad day for the South African music industry. One of its most popular and talented artists, R&B singer Tsakani TK Mhinga, was found dead in her hotel room in Bryanston, Johannesburg.
Her Grahamstown fans are shocked.TK is dead? I just cannot believe that. No, you are joking, said 16-year-old pupil Dineo Gasa. That song Eject Yo Ass was one of my favourite songs by her, because it could really get me moving and grooving on the dance floor.
Police have confirmed that a note was found next to the 27-year-old singer’s body, but the contents of that note have still not been confirmed. However, it has been confirmed that there was no evidence of a struggle or forced entry into the singer’s room.
Her voice was so smooth and a pleasure to listen to,said Rhodes student Jonathan Fourie. It’s quite sad when someone with so much talent and so much to contribute to the South African music scene dies.
TK was a multiple award-winning artist. Her awards included three South African Music Awards for Best R&B Album for both her releases, TKO in 2001 and for Eject Yo Ass in 2002. She was also nominated for two MTN Metro FM Music Awards in 2000 for Best R&B Artist and Best Female Artist.
TK has performed all over the world from Senegal to Japan and has given sizzling performances at the Kora Awards and Miss South Africa Pageant.
