Police arrested a man with unlicensed firearm and ammunition following a community tip-off in Makhanda this week. Around 6am on Friday 23 July, police in possession of a search warrant pounced on a house in Hlalani Location, Makhanda.
At the scene, police found an unlicensed firearm, 7.65mm pistol with 6 live rounds of ammunition underneath a bed. A 23-year-old man was arrested and is due to appear in the Magistrate’s Court in Makhanda on Monday, 26 July 2021 on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Acting Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Brigadier John Lebok commended members for their swift response.
