The Kingswood College girls’ first team water polo travelled to Port Elizabeth for the Alexander Road water polo festival over the weekend of 9-10 February. It was a busy two days with the team playing 11 matches in total. The strength of the opposition varied, but it was an ideal opportunity to work on patterns of play and combinations for St Peter’s tournament later in February in Johannesburg.
Kingswood won nine of their 11 matches, drew one and lost one. The team worked well together nicely and there were some excellent attacks where they were able to use their awareness and communication in the pool to score. The Kingswood defence was solid. All the players, except for the goalkeeper, contributed to Kingswood’s impressive 66 total goals scored at the festival.
A highlight was the match against Collegiate, which Kingswood won by A win of 5-3. Kingswood are hoping to repeat this sort of performance at St Peter’s.
