From small beginnings in December 2009 in the NG Kerksaal, the Grahamstown Christmas Market has become an institution of its own in our city. Started as a joint venture by the NG Kerk Albanie and the Rapportryers, it has grown in size, stature and popularity, especially after moving to the school hall premises of Hoërskool PJ Olivier in 2013.
To mark the 10th anniversary of the Market, a fourth day of browsing, buying and being spoilt at the famous coffee shop was added for this year. Doors will be open from Wednesday 28 through Friday 30 November, 10am to 7pm, as well as Saturday 1 December 9am to 3pm. A mix of old favourites and fresh new stalls will offer their wares: wines from Calitzdorp, beer from Howieson’s Poort, meat from Riebeeck East and Kleinemonde, cheese from Paterson, olive products from Riversdale, and honey from Addo.
Woodwork gems, plants, jewellery, ceramic ware, quilts, handmade soaps, educational toys, an assortment of baked goods and much, much more will be up for grabs (after paying of course!). On the stage there will also be an exhibition by lecturers and learners from Johan Carinus Art Centre. And, of course, the coffee shop in the foyer remains the best spot to relax with friends and enjoy good stuff for four days of the year!
