SuperSport weekend highlights: 13 to 15 October

SuperSport United ran amok in the this year’s Nedbank Cup soccer final, outclassing Orlando Pirates 4-1, but it is unlikely they will have such a comfortable win in the battle for MTN8 honours.

The final showdown against Cape Town City takes place in Durban on Saturday (SS4, 6pm, SS10, 16.30pm) and it is sure to be typically hard-fought cup final battle.

With the pressure on, it is rare to see teams running away with victory as SuperSport did earlier this year. As with most games of this nature, the team who score first will set the tone for the match and it should develop into a fascinating contest.

The classic clash in England sees arch-enemies Manchester United and Liverpool line up at Anfield on Saturday (SS3, 12.30pm).  The rivalry between these football giants has become increasingly antagonistic and there will be no love lost when they run out on Saturday.

Man U are flying in the league so far, while Liverpool will be desperately looking for some redemption.

While the Sharks sit comfortably atop the log in the rugby Currie Cup, the scrap for the remaining semifinal spots enters the final phase this weekend. Six points separate the next six teams and only Griquas are out of the running.

The Blue Bulls (27 points) kick it off against the Pumas (26) on Friday (SS1, 6.30pm), while the Sharks (47) aim to wrap up a strong season against Western Province (32) on Saturday (SS1, 2.45pm).

The Lions (30) and the Cheetahs (31) will probably know what they have to do when they meet in the final game on Saturday (SS1, 5pm).

The cricketers return to action on Sunday and the touring Bangladeshis will be hoping the shortened format of the game reduces the gulf between them and the Proteas. It would be a shock if they won, but they will be hoping, at the least, to be competitive when the one-day series kicks off in Kimberley on Sunday (SS2, 9am).
