This year the National Arts Festival is branching out into sports culture, hosting the first ever Premier’s Cup Diski Tournament at Fiddler’s Green.

The community event will kick off with a coaching clinic on Sunday 2 July from 10am to 2pm, with the games running from Monday 3 July to Sunday 9 July. The clinic will be run by the Chippa United Football Club, with Head of Development, Glen Minnie and former player and assistant coach, Mbuyiselo Sambu leading the way.

The tournament is all-inclusive, open to men and women of all ages who are enthusiastic to play. Participants are required to enter in teams of seven and there is still plenty of space available for those interested. 13 teams have been registered but the organisers are aiming to have as many as 24 participating in the points-based round robin culminating in a semi-final and final playoff on Sunday 9 July.

The event has been organised in collaboration with The Makana Local Football Association (MLFA) and Makana Local Municipality in an attempt to create an amateur tournament involving as many members of the community as possible and fostering a culture of recreational sport as a platform to bring people together.

Registration is free and takes place on Saturday 1 July from 10am to 2pm. Alternately teams can register here. The organisation encourages as many people as possible to get on board for a week of fresh air and fun on Fiddler’s Green.
