Grey High in Port Elizabeth will once again welcome rugby teams from across the country as they host the Grey High Rugby Festival on Thursday 27 April and Saturday 29 April. The Festival will involve 20 first-team sides as well as several other age groups from schools across South Africa.
Two of these first teams taking part are Grahamstown’s St Andrew’s College and Graeme College, who will both only be travelling to Port Elizabeth for their matches on Saturday.
Graeme College first XV will take on the imposing Ithembelihle from Port Elizabeth in a challenging encounter on Grey’s Philip Field at 15:30. Ithembelihle have always been a competitive side with a steady stream of talented youngsters flowing through. One such youngster is fullback Masixole Banda, who has been making a name for himself in 2017 for the Southern Kings Super Rugby side.
St Andrew’s on the other hand will face a different challenge in the form of St John’s from Johannesburg. St John’s have a reputation as a physical outfit, and will be looking to make the most of this opportunity to show the Eastern Cape fans their own brand of rugby. Kick-off for this clash will be at 11:30 on Grey’s Philip field on Saturday.
All told, the Grey High Rugby Festival promises to be an action-packed and exciting couple of days for all fans of schoolboy rugby.
