South Africa saw off a minor scare from the USA, coming out 28-10 winners in their second pool game.

The USA started the game on the front foot, with Maka Unufe scoring the opening try in the third minute. Folau Niua failed to convert.

South Africa hit back with a try from Cecil Afrika, which was converted by Branco du Preez. The Blitzboks then applied pressure straight from the restart and capitalised on some poor defence from the visitors to add another through Werner Kok. Du Preez converted once more and the hosts led 14-5 at the break.

Seabelo Senatla added another try right after half-time, which du Preez converted. The kicker was then replaced by Grahamstown-born Rosko Specman.

The Blitzboks continued to attack, but failed to find a way through before momentum changed once more. Danny Barrett opened up the game again, scoring for the USA.

However, the Blitzboks finished off in style with Kok grabbing his second try. Justin Geduld put the finishing touch on with his conversion.

South Africa's final game on Saturday is against Australia and kicks off at 19h56.
