An electronic tracking application was used to locate a man suspected of stealing electronic equipment from a Bathurst resident in the early hours of Thursday 8 December.
The man awoke around 4.30am to find someone next to his bed who fled with several items of electronic communication equipment.
Bathurst Detectives were led directly to the home of a 37-year-old suspect by a tracking app on the victim's cellphone.
All the items worth R52 000 were recovered and the man was arrested. He faces a charge of housebreaking and theft and will appear in the Port Alfred Magistrate's Court on Monday.
In Grahamstown an integrated property related operation by members of the Grahamstown Crime Intelligence and Grahamstown Detectives yielded the arrest of a man on Thursday 8 December on three separate counts of theft, possession of suspected stolen property as well as money laundering.
Items valued at R36 400 and R1 000 cash were recovered and seized. The man will appear in the magistrate's court in Grahamstown.
Meanwhile four robbers arrested in January 2014 in Alexandria were yesterday sentenced to a total of 120 years imprisonment in the Alexandria Regional Court.
Mkhuseli Tyala, 33, Siyabonga Makhaza, 34, Mpumelelo Mensile, 29, and Ayanda Ntshona, 39, were found guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances, attempted murder, possession of an unlicenced firearm and possession of ammunition.
They were all sentenced to 15 years and the first count and 15 years on counts 1-3, with the sentences running concurrently.
The sentencing was the conclusion of a case that began in the early hours of 19 January 2014, when members of the Alexandria SAPS stopped a vehicle suspected to have been hijacked in Paterson.
The vehicle a Toyota Tazz, had five male occupants.
As the vehicle approached Alexandria, three constables on duty tried to stop the car and the men opened fire. The officers returned fire, injuring one. He was apprehended and placed under guard in hospital and three other suspects were also arrested.
The case concluded nearly three years later in the Alexandria Regional Court, following intense investigation and teamwork by the Alexandria Detectives and the Grahamstown Vehicle Identification Section.
