St Andrew’s College and Graeme College 1st cricket sides enjoyed good wins over Grey High School and Alexandria Road respectively on Saturday.
St Andrew’s were put in to bat first, making 231 in their 50 overs, thanks to a century by Bruce Phillips who ended on 108 runs.
St Andrew’s were made to work hard to defend their total, managing to stop Grey just short of the total.
St Andrew’s won by 18 runs as Bruce contributed to the bowling as well, taking 3 wickets for 15 runs. Craig Stow took 3/38.
Alex batted first and put up a defendable score of 142. Liam Agnew, on debut for Graeme, picked up 3 wickets for 26 runs.
In reply Graeme got to off to a steady start, but then lost 3 of their top order batsmen, with plenty to do still.
Graeme then found some form of quality cricket, with an unbeaten partnership between Romario Fritz (47 not out) and Mark Amm (44 not out).
They put on 70 for the 4th wicket, to take Graeme to 7 wicket victory.
