The annual Rapportryers/Hoërskool PJ Olivier Fun Run will take place on Thursday.
The annual event has donated money raised from the fun run towards many various beneficiaries over the past, including Settler's Close, Hoerskool PJ Olivier, Hayton Place and Somerset Place.
Organiser of the fun run and PJ Olivier headmaster, Joubert Retief said this year's beneficiary is Heart Matters Pregnancy Crisis Centre Grahamstown.
Joubert said the aim of the fun run “has always been to involve the entire Grahamstown community. This year all funds generated will be used to support the Heart Matters Pregnancy Crisis Centre Grahamstown”.
Heart Matters Pregnancy Centre counsels women with an unplanned pregnancy to make informed decisions, guiding them through their options in a non-judgemental way. Their services are free.
All schools and adults are invited to enter and the entry fee is R15 per scholar and R20 per adult. Last year’s fun run attracted around 450 entrants, with Retief hoping for a record-breaking field at this year’s event.
The fun run is well known for its generous spot prizes, thanks to the many local businesses who show their support for the event. Medals will be awarded to the first 100 finishers; each finisher will receive a fruit juice at the finish.
The overall men’s and women’s winners will each receive R500. The prize for second place is R350 and R150 for third place.
