A man died after being stabbed in Grahamstown in the early hours of 24 December.
Police spokesperson Captain Milanda Coetzer said the man, estimated to be around 30, was stabbed when he went to stock up on more liquor during an evening of drinking with his girlfriend.
The man was from Alexandria, 25km south-west of Grahamstown. His girlfriend lives in Zolani.
Coetzer said the couple were spending the evening together on Tuesday 23 December. Around 2am they went to restock their liquor supply.
“There was an altercation with a 17-year-old and the elder man was stabbed three times in the head with a ‘Rambo’-style [serrated]knife,” Coetzer, Crime Intelligence Officer in the Grahamstown SAPS, said.
The man was taken to Settlers Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
On Monday a social worker would be brought in to interview the 17-year-old, who was in custody, Coetzer said.
