The St Andrew's College first cricket team beat the Dale College side by eight runs in their inter-school match on Saturday.
Dale won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch with a tinge of green to it. The St Andrew's bowlers persisted with good line and length for most of the morning, restricting the Dale top order to 68/4 after 32 overs, before a partnership lower down in the order got things going for Dale. Chris Ford’s second spell grabbed two necessary wickets, restricting Dale to 154/8 in their 50 overs.
St Andrew's lost an early wicket in their afternoon run chase, but then Andrew Rushmere (53) and Murray Leith (65 not out) compiled a patient and mature 116-run partnership, sealing a comfortable win for St Andrew's by 8 wickets.
