A new face arrived at the local municipal offices to report for duty on Monday. Nonkoliseko Jaza joined Makana municipality's communications team yesterday to begin as the assistant media and communications officer.
"I am very happy to be here and I am going to do my best to make sure that the community is informed about what the municipality is doing," Jaza said. "As the Bathopele principles require municipalities to be transparent about service delivery, I will try my best to make sure that communities are involved."
Jaza also plans to help keep the municipality's website updated and establish a newsletter. The 25-year-old from Alice has an Honours degree in communications from the University of Fort Hare and previously worked as an intern at Couga Development Corporation for 18 months.
Municipal spokesperson Mncedisi Boma said he was delighted that Jaza has arrived to assist within his division. "Communications come with a huge responsibility and we are hoping her arrival will help in improving our communications. She will be prioritising the website as we have been having complaints that our website is not up to date. We also had a problem in responding timeously to the media so she will also be making follow-ups to media enquires," Boma said.
