Fourteen schools first cricket teams were in action yesterday at various cricket fields in Grahamstown. The schools are currently taking part in the Grahamstown Schools Cricket Festival which is held over three days.
The festival started yesterday and continues until tomorrow (Saturday). Yesterday and today's matches are unlimited overs matches, while tomorrow's will be limited overs as many of the sides are scheduled to travel back after their games.
Dave Emslie (CEO of Eastern Province Cricket and the Chevrolet Warriors Franchise) paid a surprise visit to the festival. Grocott's Mail caught up with Emslie during the Kingswood College vs St Andrew's (Bloemfontein) match. Emslie said he was enjoying the cricket and was specifically watching the Grahamstown schools in action.
Emslie added that he was pleased to see the players all round behaviour was good as it is an important aspect they watch out for in cricket games, ranging from excessive appealing to dress code and general behaviour on the field. Todays matches start at 9am, while the starting times for the Saturday matches will be decided by the opposing coaches.
