The first edition was launched in 2002 and was the first dictionary to be fully adapted for the South African user.
The dictionary will include many new South African English words including the histories and origins of some interesting words in boxed usage notes, which will help the user to avoid common grammatical and spelling errors.
Since the dictionary was edited by the DSAE,their role was to make the Oxford English Dictionary more accessible and relevant to South African English speakers.
Accoring to Jill Wolvaardt, Excecutive Director of the DSAE, the deparment took the dictionary and tailored it to the South African market.
The DSAE team also looked into general English words and explained them so that they can be easily understood by South Africans. The dictionary will be on sale for R395 at the launch at UPB at 5.30pm today.
