In an Eastern province Wellman Harmse Super League match on Saturday, Swallows 1sts beat an out of form Easterns by 21-9.
Easterns opened the core with a snap drop goal for a 3-0 lead and then doubled this after receiving a penalty.
Swallows replied with a penalty goal by Lurane Daniels to take the halftime score to 6-3 in favour of the Easterns.
Ten minutes into the second half saw Swallows take the lead for the first time in the match, as Brian Goliath dived over for the first try of the match, as his side lead 8-6.
Easterns took the lead with another penalty. Jacko Buys of Swallows intercepted a pass from Easterns
to score under the posts, and with the conversion, Swallows were again in the lead 15-9, before Koning Abrahams extended this to 18-9 with a drop goal.
Just before the end of the match, Goliath put over a long range penalty to give Swallows a 21-9 win. Swallows flanker Jacko Buys was the stand out player for his side, dominating at the break points and tackling well.
Swallows coach, Phillip Oerson said he was happy with the win, as this now puts his side in the running for a top two position in the league.In other games Swallows 2nds beat Easterns 28-0 and in the 1st reserve match, Easterns won 3-0.
