Hip to be square (known among faithful followers as h2b2) is a innovative edutainment programme by young
people for young people.
It attempts to remove the geek stigma attached to being a lover of maths, science and technology. Each year h2b2 chooses a number of young people nationally as their brand ambassadors, with the purpose of promoting the future offered by maths science and technology to communities.
This year five ambassadors were chosen from the Eastern Cape, and four of those five are local Grahamstown learners.
Michael-Jon Rosslee of St Andrew’s College, Justine Lowe of DSG and Babalwa Qaba and Cassandra Lister of Victoria Girls’ High School have been chosen to head the initiative of encouraging local learners to put their brains to good use.
These youngsters will be representing Grahamstown at a national level by helping to inspire the youth. In their press release, h2b2 mentioned that it had up to 600 national nominations for brand ambassadors. These bright sparks managed to make it to the final thirty three.
