After halfterm the grade 9R class was given an interesting project by Mrs Knoetze and Mr Rumbold: to create a news bulletin, get people’s opinions and create a top ten music list to be aired on radio on a program called Y4Y which is aired on radio Grahamstown (102.1 fm).
After halfterm the grade 9R class was given an interesting project by Mrs Knoetze and Mr Rumbold: to create a news bulletin, get people’s opinions and create a top ten music list to be aired on radio on a program called Y4Y which is aired on radio Grahamstown (102.1 fm).
Y4Y is a project that was started so that schools could get involved with radio broadcasting. Many schools were involved, with Kingswood being on of the lucky ones.
The people involved were given one week to prepare the news bulletin and it was recorded on the day before it was aired (11th March).
The first episode which was aired on 11th March involved three schools: Kingswood, Victoria Girls and Nathaniel Nyaluza.
Four of our students, Jethro Thorburn, Justine Headbush, Matthew Purdon and Miles Ellery went to the studio with Mrs Knoetze went to the studio in Fitzroy Street where it was being broadcasted live and were all involved with the creation of Kingswood input into Y4Y
. The people who were involved in recording the news bulletin were Mo James, Amy Lester, Amy Harris, Shannon Arnold and myself.
Although many other people, including John Stephenson, Jethro Thorburn, Justine Headbush and Nyasha Maposa were involved in the ‘behind the scenes’ work.
The show portrayed much of Kingwoods talents and achievements with Y4Y, even airing a rap by Denis Mutesasira.
Y4Y is run every Thursday from 5pm-6pm with new schools involved every week. The main presenter of Y4Y is Khaya Thonjeni who presents the show every week.
He compiles and manages the programme together with Mrs Jane Morgan, one of our Junior School parents.
Y4Y has brought many schools together that would not have likely gotten together in a fun and interesting way.
