As Christians we all agree that our children are a gift from the Lord and that our primary responsibility as
parents is to train them in the ways of the Lord.
Above everything else in this life we are to teach our children the Word of God, not just to put it to memory but to understand it and love it and live it.
As Christians we all agree that our children are a gift from the Lord and that our primary responsibility as
parents is to train them in the ways of the Lord.
Above everything else in this life we are to teach our children the Word of God, not just to put it to memory but to understand it and love it and live it.
In Deuteronomy 11:19 we read, “Teach them [God’s laws] to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
We are to encourage our children to come to Jesus in acknowledgement of their sinful state and need of a Saviour. It was Jesus Himself who said to His disciples, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.”
(Matthew 19:14-15). We must encourage our children to praise the Lord. Jesus Himself rejoiced in the praises of children and infants, “But when the chief and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things He did and the children shouting in the temple area, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David’ they were indignant. ‘Do you hear what these children are saying?’
they asked Him. ‘Yes,’ replied Jesus, “have you never read, ‘From the lips of children and infants you have ordained raise.’” (Matthew 21:15-16)Remember children are never too young to understand the gospel message or to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
They are never to young to study God’s word or to attend Sunday school and church after all they are never to young to attend crèche and school and to study the things of this world.
Oh, how the generations to follow need to be grounded in the Word of the living God.
