The annual Makana Brick 8km fun run/walk takes place through the streets of Grahamstown tomorrow evening. The race starts at 5.30pm and is organised by Albany Road Runners.
The fun run starts at the Albany Sports Club, with participants making their way into Fitzroy Street, before turning towards Graeme College and then onto Park Road to Kingswood College. It’s then along High Street, into Beaufort Street and then right into Somerset Street.
Participants will cross over the new traffic circle, turn into Constitution Street before crossing over Milner Street and then back to the sports field.
Motorists are urged to drive with special caution, especially at the Church Square robots as well as the new traffic circle on Somerset Street and Cradock Road which is already a narrow road due to the construction taking place.
The race records for men and women are held by George and Ntombizinto Ntsheleza with times of 25:15 and 30:36 respectively.
The fastest time by a local male is Simphiwe Tana’s 25:30 set in 2007, while Frith van der Merwe holds the fastest time for a local woman with her time of 32:10, which also set in 2007.
