A camera used to make student identity cards was stolen out of the Student Bureau offices on Rhodes campus last week.
According to Dave Charteris, manager for the Campus Protection Unit (CPU), this is the third attempt to steal the camera in the past few years.

According to Dave Charteris, manager for the Campus Protection Unit (CPU), this is the third attempt to steal the camera in the past few years.
Charteris explains that three people entered the building and made off with the camera during the day while the bureau was open.
“The camera was not secured as it was just standing on a tripod,” says Charteris. A bureau staff member saw them and phoned CPU so the CPU staff soon gave chase and arrested all three of the suspects and the camera was recovered.
The Student Bureau has now locked the camera with a chain to prevent any future attempts to steal it. Charteris says that the chain should deter criminals from stealing it as the noise attracts a lot of attention and the lock is time consuming to loosen.
