The EP Rugby side gave their fans something to smile about when they went on to crush Border Bulldogs 48-26. Debbie Ellis, administration and team operations manager for EP Rugby said:
“The team was really excited to play in Grahamstown, and enjoyed the game tremendously, as did the non-playing squad members that travelled through from Port Elizabeth to support the guys running out on the day.”
At the mayoral reception after the match, which was held for invited guests as well as the EP and Border teams, a commitment was given from both EP and Border to bring another game to Grahamstown next season.
Mazwi Dingana, the rugby development officer for EP Rugby, said the mayor spoke of bringing back the Mayoral Cup rugby tournament, and while this may not take place this year, he said an Easter Rugby tournament will be held this year.
