On Football Friday, Victoria Girls’ High School held their 2010 sports day around the Soccer World Cup as a theme.
Incorporating soccer and athletics into a oneday event, the four houses were separated into national
teams representing the countries that will be playing in the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

teams representing the countries that will be playing in the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
In scorching heat, the games kicked off early and continued throughout the day. While the soccer was going on, the athletics events, including long jump, high jump, shotput and discus took place across the field allowing every learner to participate.
The highlight of the day was the soccer final, which took place on the main field. The Netherlands (Graeme House) were to play Uruguay (Dorset House) for the trophy which was designed especially for the event.
With the stands packed full with chanting girls and vibrating with colour, the soccor final was a spectacle of spirit, athleticism and sportsmanship.
In a tense penalty shootout, the Netherlands took the title of soccer champions which put Graeme
house at the top of the points board for the day.
Adding to the festivity of the day, the Grade 10s performed a idiski dance, the signature dance of the World Cup, and the matrics participated in the matric race, a relay which was won by Thursford House.
To finish the day, a prizegiving was held to award the champions, Graeme House, and to acknowledge those who had helped in the organisation and preparation for a sports day with a difference.
