The 11th annual Grahamstown Schools Cricket Festival, which was hosted by St Andrew’s College, took place at various cricket fields around town last week.
The 11th annual Grahamstown Schools Cricket Festival, which was hosted by St Andrew’s College, took place at various cricket fields around town last week.
Twelve schools took part in the festival, including local sides from Graeme College, St Andrew’s College, Kingswood College and an Albany Rural side made up of players from Mary Waters Secondary School, Nombulelo Secondary School and Port Alfred High School.
The management team consisted of Forbed Coutts (Port Alfred HS), Boss Naika (Nombulelo) and Eric Jonklass (Mary Waters). St Andrew’s won one match, lost one and drew their final match.
They beat St Andrew’s School (Bloemfontein) by six wickets, lost to Wynberg by four wickets and drew the last match to St Alban’s. Individual achievements: Damon Weeks took three wickets for 22 runs against St Andrew’s (Bloemfontein) and 3/22 against Wynberg.
Sasha Gunn made 60 runs against St Andrew’s (Bloemfontein), and Philip de la Fargnem took 3/27 against Wynberg. Against St Alban’s, James Price made 81 runs and Richard O’Mahony made 51 not out while Ryan Dugmore took five wickets for 71, runs in 23 overs. Kingswood lost two matches and won one.
They lost to Wynberg by four wickets, beat St Alban’s by five wickets and lost to St Andrew’s (Bloemfontein) by two wickets. Individual achievements: Steven Hansell made 100 against Wynberg and 135 against St Alban’s.
Neil Hornbuckle made 98 against St Andrew’s (Bloemfontein). Graeme lost all three of their matches, losing to Dale by 33 runs, to St Andrew’s School (Bloemfontein) by 110 runs and to Cambridge by four wickets.
Individual achievements: Lee Mapalang made 54 runs against Dale, Thandi Nqowana took 3/42 and Abner Accom took 3/34 against St Andrew’s (Bloemfontein). Thandi Nqowana made 59 not out and took three wickets for 24 runs against Cambridge. The Albany Rural side lost all three of their matches, results as follows: Albany Rural vs Trinityhouse:
Trinityhouse 176 all out (Darren Elliott 4/12), Albany Rural 136 all out (Luvuyo Frans 29). Trinityhouse won by 40 runs. Albany Rural vs Cambridge: Cambridge 153 all out, Grahamstown Rural 88 all out (Calferno de Lange 32). Cambridge won by 65 runs.
